For those curious about home birth:
Birth Bag
-
Once you find yourself in your 3rd trimester (and if you are not planning a home birth), it’s time to start preparing your hospital or birth center bag.
Items to include:
1.) A few copies of your birth preferences.
2.) Comfortable clothing. Typically this includes nursing friendly nightgowns/ PJs, a robe, nursing bras, comfy socks, slippers and a going home outfit. If you have a planned cesarean, be mindful of packing looser fitting clothing and incision friendly underwear. Keep in mind that yes, while you will have had your baby, you will still look pregnant immediately postpartum and clothing should fit accordingly. Also, if you plan to breastfeed, opt for tops that make this easy.
3.) Toiletries. While you won’t need your full makeup routine, you may want some things that make you feel a bit fresh such as a toothbrush/ toothpaste, hair brush, shampoo/ conditioner, face/ body wash and lotion.
4.) Electronics such as your phone and charger.
-
1.) Your place of birth typically provides diapers, a hat and swaddle for your newborn, but you will need a seasonably going home outfit.
2.) Car seat (which should be installed before you go to your place of birth).
-
1.) Change of clothes/ sleeping clothes. Partners may also want comfy socks/ slippers as hospitals can be particularly chilly.
2.) Toiletries
3.) Snacks/ Drinks
4.) Electronics such as a phone & charger.
